Get ready to discover Galar, a vast region with a wide variety of environments, from peaceful farmlands and modern cities to dense forests and snow-capped mountains. The people and Pokémon who live here collaborate to develop local industries.
During your travels, you'll visit various Gyms as you pursue the title of Champion! You won't be alone, though, as newly discovered Pokémon live in Galar, from which you can choose your very first partner!

Your adventure in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield begins after you choose from one of three new Pokémon!
- Grookey, a Grass-type Chimp Pokémon, is a mischievous rascal with boundless curiosity.
- The Fire-type Rabbit Pokémon Scorbunny is full of energy and always running around.
- Sobble, the Water-type Lizard Pokémon, is a bit timid and launches attacks while hidden in the water.
Dynamaxing, which only occurs at specific points in the Galar region, causes Pokémon to grow to gigantic proportions during battles.
Pokémon from the Galar region can Dynamax, and when they do, their stats are boosted.
The Wild Area, which covers a large part of the Galar region, stretches between cities and is rich in lush landscapes. Trainers will find a much greater variety of Pokémon there than anywhere else in the Galar region.
Dynamax Raids are a new type of battle that takes place in the Wild Area, where the player must team up with up to three other Trainers, online* or locally**, to face a wild Dynamax Pokémon. If they manage to defeat it, Trainers will have the chance to catch it, but it won't be an easy feat.

As inhabitants of the Galar region, players will embark on an adventure to become Champion. Along their journeys, they will encounter a great number of characters and Pokémon.
The Galar region is home to many different species of Pokémon. Their biology is still largely unknown, so researchers are working diligently to discover more about it.
