20 years after the launch of Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Green Version in Japan, it's time to announce the next era of Pokémon games! Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon for the Nintendo 3DS family of consoles will introduce a new world, new Pokémon, and new adventures!

 

Three new travel companions

As is tradition in the Pokémon game series, in the brand new Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, players will choose their first travel companion from three Pokémon in the early stages of the game. These are three recently discovered Pokémon: Rowlet, a Grass/Flying type, Litten, a Fire type, and Popplio, a Water type. As both novice and experienced Trainers know, understanding Pokémon types is vitally important in battles! Grass-type Pokémon are strong against Water types, but weak against Fire types. Fire types have an advantage over Grass-type Pokémon, but are at a disadvantage when facing Water-type Pokémon. Water-type Pokémon, in turn, are stronger against Fire-type opponents, but have more difficulty against Grass types.

 

Litten

The second starter Pokémon presented to us is Litten, the Fire Cat Pokémon, sleek and controlled in battle. Its oily, highly flammable fur is a powerful weapon. It keeps itself clean by constantly licking itself and storing hairballs in its belly, which allow it to unleash fiery attacks! When it sheds, its fur ignites in a spectacular blaze.

The Alola Region

Your new adventure in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon takes place in the Alola region, a lush tropical archipelago made up of four natural islands and one artificial island. This renowned resort destination attracts tourists from all over the world. In Alola, surrounded by a wonderful sea and characterized by a diverse ecosystem, native Pokémon and Pokémon from other regions that have arrived more or less recently coexist. In this remote region, humans and Pokémon live in perfect harmony.

New Pokémon and Ultra Beasts

In Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon you will find many brand new Pokémon, such as Salandit, Bewear and Wimpod. But in addition to these, there are mysterious new presences threatening Alola, the Ultra Beasts! They are said to possess immense power and to be a threat to Pokémon and all of humanity: it's no wonder they are so feared. It seems that the Aether Foundation is also conducting research on them. According to unconfirmed rumors, there are several Ultra Beasts that have been given a code name.

Alolan Forms

Every living creature adapts to its surroundings, and this is true for Pokémon too. Some Pokémon have taken on different forms from those known in other regions, as a result of their natural adaptation to Alola's particular microclimates. These Pokémon, encountered in specific regional forms, have permanently settled in Alola and can now be considered native to this region. They differ from specimens of the same species from other areas in appearance, habits, and sometimes even type.

Z-Moves and Battle Royal

Z-Moves are one of the new features that characterize battles in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. These are very powerful moves that can only be used once in each battle. When the Trainer's will is in sync with the Pokémon's, the explosive power of a Z-Move is unleashed! Then there's the brand new Battle Royal: Until now, Pokémon battles have mostly seen two Trainers face off. In Battle Royal, there are four contenders in a heated free-for-all!
