STORY
Rumors have reached even the most skeptical villagers, now gripped by fear and hysteria. This time, they are not just rumors. Bloodstained leaves indicate that evil creatures are drawing closer to humans. It is believed that a new demon has appeared in the underworld. Its plan is to cross the rift into our world as soon as it finds what it is looking for. Such a situation requires the priest's presence in the village, leaving his niece, the priestess, to look after the temple.
The villagers' fear has not reached the temple nestled in the remote mountains, where the priestess Naoko works as usual, too busy to worry. Between cleaning and various duties, time passes, with or without the priest. Without giving much thought to these stories of demons and ghosts, which she believes to be the fruit of frightened children's imagination, Naoko leaves the temple to head to the river before nightfall. But what the villagers fear seems to be taking shape in the gloomy forest. Naoko continues to walk, increasingly tense, until her doubts are dispelled; but not her fears.
Soon she loses consciousness, as well as awareness of her soul and body, and falls to the ground; halfway between life and death. The temple bell rings for help, but it is no longer a sacred place. All the Gods have fled, leaving the field open for monsters, ghosts, and spirits.
