Yuri Kozukata, Ren Hojo, and Miu Hinasaki are the three protagonists of this fifth installment of Fatal Frame who, against their will, will be forced to confront the legends and curses surrounding Mount Mikami, a place once considered sacred but which has gradually become the scene of terrifying events and dozens of suicides that have stained the slopes of this place red. Yuri is an apparently normal girl who, following an accident (in which her parents died), acquired powers that allow her to communicate with spirits but also to perceive the "vibrations" of objects and relive past events through them. Ren is the only male character in the game; he is a writer, and what leads him to that cursed place is a recurring dream in which he kills a young maiden during a strange ritual. To find out who she is, he asks Hisoka Kurosawa, the owner of an antique shop with paranormal powers, to investigate the events that occurred on Mount Mikami. During her investigations, Hisoka herself will save Yuri's life and become her mentor. The last playable character, Miu, is Miku Hinasaki's daughter, whom fans of the series will remember as the heroine of the very first Project Zero/Fatal Frame game. We prefer not to reveal anything about her in advance because the risk of spoilers would be as big as a house. Haunted, of course. The three protagonists of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water are therefore connected in some way.
