Available wood types:

  • Ebony: dark wood, very dense and resistant, ideal for those seeking maximum weight and solidity.
  • Beech: light wood, flexible, and lightweight, the most common for traditional bokken.
  • Walnut: medium-dark wood, excellent balance between weight and resistance.
  • Red-One: reddish wood, good hardness, and distinctive aesthetic appearance.

Disciplines for which it is suitable:

  • Kendo: combat sport derived from katana combat techniques. The bokken is used for performing the ten kata.
  • Kobudo: traditional Okinawan martial arts, characterized by the use of a wide number of traditional peasant-origin weapons.
  • Kenjutsu / Katori Shinto Ryu: traditional Japanese sword art, precursor to modern Kendo.

Glossary:

  • Tsuka-ito: traditional wrapping of the sword handle.
  • Tsuba: sword handguard, protects the hand during strikes.
  • Suburito: long training sword, used for strength and technique exercises.
