The Zelda & Loftwing amiibo (sold separately) can be used at any time while exploring the surface world or dungeons to create a checkpoint and return to the sky.
Using the amiibo again when you are in the sky or visiting one of the many floating islands above the clouds will return you to the checkpoint you created.
