What are Amiibos?

amiibo are interactive cards and figurines that you can use with your games. Tap the NFC sensor with an amiibo when using compatible software with Nintendo Switch, Nintendo 3DS or Wii U to unlock surprising new features! Each amiibo can have different effects depending on the game: you can unlock new modes, weapons or character customizations, and even increase your amiibo's abilities to turn it into a perfect ally or a formidable opponent!

With the NFC Reader/Writer (sold separately), you can also use amiibo with Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL and Nintendo 2DS consoles!

• Amiibo come in multiple forms

Some amiibo come as figurines, others as cards, but they all work the same way and can do the same things regardless of their form! If you have a compatible amiibo, you can use it to enhance your gaming experience in various ways!

• Unlock new content!

Access new in-game content with amiibo! Unlock additional items, weapons, characters, and more by using amiibo in compatible software.

In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, using the Wolf Link amiibo allows you to summon Wolf Link as an in-game ally.

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo, using a compatible amiibo allows you to invite animals to visit or move into your village!

• Customize!

Revamp your look with amiibo! You can change the appearance of your in-game characters and expand customization options with themed costumes by using your amiibo in compatible software.

If you use a compatible Splatoon amiibo in Splatoon 2, you can befriend that character and unlock new gear for your Inkling!

In Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, you can use an amiibo to unlock patterns for Yoshi based on the corresponding character. Discover what Yoshi would look like if he resembled Mario, Kirby, Donkey Kong, and other characters!

• Unlock new challenges!

By using amiibo with certain compatible software, you can unlock brand new missions.

If you use the Alm or Celica amiibo in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, you can unlock a special dungeon where you will face bosses and collect items.

In Picross 3D: Round 2, you can use an amiibo to unlock special puzzles based on classic Nintendo characters!

• Power up the party!

In Mario Party: Star Rush, using a Super Mario Collection amiibo allows that character to join you as an ally in Toad Scramble. In other modes, you can play as the amiibo, receive special dice, or get other bonuses!

In Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival, by placing an amiibo on the GamePad, you can use the corresponding character as a game piece. You can also use Animal Crossing amiibo cards in fun mini-games!

• Train a powerful fighter!

In some games, you can develop your amiibo's abilities as you play, giving you the chance to create your very own amiibo character!

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, you can evolve your amiibo to create the most powerful ally or the fiercest opponent. Create an amiibo as a Figure Player, then fight alongside or against it. The more a Figure Player fights, the faster it will evolve, even learning new moves from the opponents it faces!

• One amiibo, many different games!

A single amiibo can be used across multiple games, adding a new layer of fun to your favorite titles. In fact, even if you have Super Smash Bros. for Wii U game data on your amiibo, you can still use it to unlock content in many other titles!
