In 1349, the plague ravages the kingdom of France, and Amicia and her younger brother are hunted by the Inquisition.

Around them, villages devastated by the disease offer little refuge, were it not for other children their age, young orphans who offer them help and support to escape the supernatural hordes of rats using light and fire.

The bond between the two siblings is the only thing that truly matters and is the driving force of the entire plot, allowing them to face the darkest days of the Middle Ages and the desperate struggle for survival that awaits them.

However, not everything is against them. Shadows offer shelter from the eyes of the Inquisition, and the rats are just as dangerous for their enemies. Thanks to their young age, Amicia and Hugo can devise diabolical plans to get rid of their enemies and pit them against each other.
